The Five Royal Books

The "Royal Books", by Frances Havergal each contain 31 devotionals (with additional readings in My King for Sundays). Frances weaves Scripture together all through her writings, with many marginal notes to lead one on to further study. Much of this preface is gleaned from Frances' own prefaces to the five royal books: My King, Royal Commandments, Royal Bounty, Royal Invitation and Loyal Responses. Following are brief descriptions of each of these treasures:

My King Hardcover, 96 pages In My King Frances shows us 36 lovely Old Testament pictures of our King, the Lord Jesus. She has chosen Scriptures which concern the actual present reign of Christ our King ... desiring that they may quicken the glad loyalty and loving praise of some of His children, and that the blessing of the King may go forth with every copy. "Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King," and then "Daily shall HE be praised"!

 
 

Royal Commandments Hardcover, 104 pages Designed to be read in the morning, Royal Commandments, was written with the aim to lead His servants, morning by morning, not only to keep, but to seek, recognise, and delight in His Royal Commandments, and it is sent forth with the prayer that every reader may be taught by His good Spirit more of the happy obedience of faith.

 
 

Royal Bounty Hardcover, 104 pages Her evening reading - Royal Bounty, or Evening Thoughts for the King's Guests, was written in hopes that it would be a tiny cup of cold water to some of His tired children when their day's work, or day's waiting, is over. It is a beautiful collection focusing on the gracious provision of our King to His subjects, the benefits of the Christian life, the unsearchable riches of Christ in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

 
 

Royal Invitation Hardcover, 96 pages Royal Invitation, the fourth book, contains 31 readings focusing on the Gospel. It is a beautiful presentation of the great word of Invitation, Royal and Divine, that is given to us, "Come unto Me," and would be a blessing both as an invitation to those who have yet to respond to His call, and as a refreshing reminder to those of us who have already accepted the great invitation.

 
 

Loyal Responses Hardcover, 80 pages Loyal Responses is a book of 31 daily poetry readings. Frances felt that her little series of daily books, My King, Royal Commandments, Royal Bounty, and The Royal Invitation, appeared to need an answering and completing chord. And as these all aim ... at calling attention to the Royal utterances of our King, it seemed that Loyal Responses should follow them. In these poems, almost every line has been either directly drawn from Holy Scripture or may be proved thereby.
